To encourage student participation in the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology annual meeting, the Jackson School of Geosciences Student Member Travel Grant program was established in 2006. The society plans to expand the program in subsequent years.
ALERT! Please submit your application for the travel grant even if you have not yet submitted your abstract (this will not disqualify your application). Applicants will not know if their abstract has been accepted, but will still need to apply for the travel grant before the online award submission deadline.
Submission Guidelines
ALERT! A new electronic online submission system has been instituted this year for Student Member Travel Grants and most other SVP awards. See "What to Submit" for the link.
Do NOT e-mail, fax or mail nomination materials to the committee chair. Any materials sent by e-mail, fax or mail will NOT be reviewed.
ALERT! The Membership Committee, which administers the Student Member Travel Grant program, will begin reviewing the numerous grant applications once the deadline is reached. The final selection of travel grant awardees will be made AFTER the Membership Committee obtains the list of selected abstracts from the Program Committee during the summer.
Selection is based on information submitted in the online application, so take care in completing it.
Students must be members as of March, 2009. The application itself is evaluated, so students should focus on the written statement about significance of attending the meeting. Include information about the presentation, because the committee does not see the presentation abstract.
Previous grantees are NOT eligible.
Applicants must meet the requirements below. The applicant must:
