Romer-Simpson Medal

The A.S. Romer - G.G. Simpson medal, the society's highest award, is awarded for sustained and outstanding scholarly excellence in the discipline of vertebrate paleontology. Learn more about Dr. Simpson. Learn more about Dr. Romer.

Submission Guidelines

Submissions must be done through the SVP Online Submission System.
Do NOT e-mail, fax or mail nomination materials to the committee chair. Any materials sent by e-mail, fax or mail will NOT be reviewed.

Nominees do not need to be members of the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology.

What to Submit

Information to be submitted online:

A formal letter of nomination
At least two (2) seconding letters of support. Each letter must bear the contact information of the person providing the letter (name, institution, phone and e-mail address).
A curriculum vitae of the nominee.

Nominators should note the following:

It is the responsibility of the nominator to gather all original letters and submit these, through the online award submission system, by the due date.
Nominees should not be informed by the nominator or by anyone else that they are under consideration for the award.
Nominating and supporting letters should explain how the individual fits the criteria for the award, emphasizing the nominee's contributions to vertebrate paleontology over the span of his/her career.
Nominees may include vertebrate paleontologists who have made outstanding and sustained contributions to the field from mid to senior career levels.
