To increase access to electronic-based publications and news of the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology (SVP) for institutions based in areas with developing economies.
This program is established to promote access by scientists and students to the scientific activities of the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology. The program is particularly intended for those who are based at institutions with limited funds and therefore limited opportunity for membership in SVP. Institutions would be promoted by Society members for “Institutional Membership,” which would offer electronic access to the Society, gratis.
Submission Guidelines
Nominations must be made by current SVP members. It is acceptable that non-members work with a current member to sponsor a nomination. In that case, the member still must submit the required application through the SVP system to recommend for membership institutions established in economically-disadvantaged nations, as defined by a ranking of <0.5 or “Low” on the UN Development Index. Nominations will be processed by a subcommittee of the Membership Committee. In the initial year, up to five institutions will be elected to Institutional Membership, each to be reviewed after five years. The goals are to spread institutional membership among eligible entities and to promote growth of the science in those institutions at the individual scientist level. Institutions should be nominated online by June 1.
What to Submit
A description (up to one page, single-spaced) of the institution’s activities and how increased access to SVP would enhance research by scientists and students at the institution.
Specifically describe the scientific role of this institution, including the number of scientists currently affiliated with it, their scientific activities, the nature of any vertebrate collections housed there, and the number of students involved, with their university affiliations. Applications are enhanced by demonstration of an active role in teaching by the institution.
